Various media reports have suggested that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been negatively affected by the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) decision of proposing a two-and-a-half-month window in International Cricket Council’s (ICC) upcoming Future Tour Programme (FTP). The current FTP will end in 2023 following the conclusion of the ICC World Cup in India.
Last week, BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed reports of proposing an official two-and-a-half-month layoff from international cricket during the Indian Premier League(IPL) season. The decision is said to be taken with the mindset to allow cricketers from all countries available during the entirety of the tournament with IPL also likely to increase the total number of matches.

Pakistan Cricket Board is reportedly upset with BCCI’s proposal as it will have a direct impact on their calendar. If the proposal is accepted, it will heavily disrupt Pakistan’ s cricketing activities as Pakistani players will not get a chance to feature in any international or competitive cricket for nearly 3 months due to this noninvolvement in IPL.
They last played in the inaugural edition of IPL but were later banned from playing in the cash rich league. Since 2008, Pakistan based cricketers have not been playing in the Indian Premier League due to the political tension between them and India.
It has also led to India and Pakistan not playing a single bilateral series against each other since the 2012-13 season. Both the teams only get a chance to square off in major tournaments like the ICC World Cup, Champions Trophy, T20 World Cup as well as the Asia Cup.
PCB is expected to bring up the two-and-a-half-month window layoff issue in the next ICC board meeting which will likely take place in July during the Commonwealth Games. They are rumored to escalate it after discussing the same with various other cricket boards in Birmingham.
The Pakistan Cricket board has been pretty vocal with their reaction after Jay Shah’s announcement last week. The announcement came after IPL sold its media rights for 48,390.32 crores INR for the Media Rights from IPL 2023-2027. The staggering value of IPL media rights is expected to have a massive impact on the way international cricket will pan out in the future.
