PAK vs ENG: Visitors Down With Food Poisoning! Something’s Fishy?

The England cricket team finds themselves in trouble ahead of their upcoming PAK vs ENG Test series. The visitors are reported to have 13-14 staff members affected by a virus on Wednesday. According to reports, half of England’s 16-man playing squad were affected by a virus after they claimed to feel unwell on Tuesday. It resulted in the management asking the players to stay in their rooms in order to limit the risk to others.

PAK vs ENG: Virus affects the visitors

This outbreak is said to have taken place at the Serena Hotel in Islamabad. All members of the England and Pakistan cricket teams have been staying in the same place alongside the UK media. The visiting team is reported to have settled down in the second floor, with the executive lounge on the sixth floor acting as their team room.

It is rumored that the players are affected by a virus rather than food poisoning as the tourists are taking particular care of what they eat as they have brought a professional chef for the tour. This is not the first time that the England cricket team had players falling ill on a tour.

Back in 2019-2020, England was on a tour of South Africa. Many members of the visiting side were affected by a bug ahead of the Boxing Day Test in Pretoria which led to players leaving the field mid way to visit the toilet and were also seen taking medication and fluids during the game.

An ECB spokesperson has cleared air about the illness ahead of the PAK vs ENG series and confirmed that it is not related to Covid-19 related. He goes on to share how many players are experiencing diarrhoea and vomiting. However, they are hopeful of the cricketers recovering in the next 24 hours.

Should the PAK vs ENG 1st Test be abandoned?

Joe Root spoke to the media and after a training session and shared how there were ongoing discussions on a postponed start for the first test. The former England skipper was a part of the handful players which included Ollie Pope, Harry Brook  and Zak Crawley, alongside Keaton Jennings to have trained ahead of the first PAK vs ENG clash.

England captain Ben Stokes alongside James Anderson and Jack Leach are suspected to be affected heavily by the virus.  The first test match of the PAK vs ENG series is scheduled to begin in Rawalpindi on 1st December, Thursday. However, it could now be postponed for 24 hours giving players enough time to recover and get it for the clash.
