Nicholas Pooran feels he played one of his best innings in the national kit during his latest outing against Bangladesh. The West Indies captain amassed an unbeaten 39-ball 74 in the third T20I as the Caribbean outfit went on to win the three-match series by a 2-0 margin.

The 28-year-old joined hands with Kyle Mayers and helped his team out after the Men in Maroon fell in trouble during the second innings. West Indies found themselves in a spot of bother when they were chasing a target of 164 with the team reduced to 43 for 3 at the end of powerplay.
The duo went on to steady West Indies’ chase and stitched up an 85-run partnership for the fourth wicket. During their partnership, Mayers also went on to score his first first T20I fifty for West Indies. He ended up scoring 55 off 38 balls before he was sent back to the hut in the 15th over.
Pooran interacted with the media in the post match press conference and spoke about the innings by WI openers. ESPNCricinfo has quoted the WI skipper saying, “I was telling Kyle how well he was batting out there. It was a top innings. He was putting away the loose balls. The bowlers were under pressure even though they were on top of the game. We want to continue to do that as a batting unit. He made my job easier.”
He added, “Our template was always to put the bowlers under pressure early in the over. Kyle put away anything loose from their off-spinners. I think I fed off that today. In T20s, a partnership is the most important thing.”
Quite fittingly, Pooran finished the game with a six in the 19th over. Speaking on his batting, the skipper said, “It is one of the best innings I have played for the West Indies just because of the fact that I was there till the end,” he said. “It is something that I have always wanted to do.”

The West Indies captain also did not shy away from expressing his thoughts on the team’s poor outing in the field during the first innings. “I just felt like we didn’t come out with the right attitude [while fielding]. It was a bit disappointing. We will definitely have a chat about it. We will have a better attitude in our next game. That’s the only thing we can control. We will definitely work on it,” Pooran added.
The 2-0 series win against Bangladesh was Nicholas Pooran’s first win as the West Indies skipper. Following the T20I series, West Indies will take on Bangladesh in 3 ODI matches at the Providence Stadium.
