New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has announced a new agreement which sees the men and women cricketers earn the same pay while representing the country. The rule will also be applicable for cricketers featuring in top-tier domestic matches for the next 5 years.
This new historic deal was finalized on Tuesday and will prove to be of great benefit for the New Zealand women’s team and other domestic female cricketers. They are set to earn the same amount as men when they are playing in either top tier games or international matches.
The agreement is applicable for all formats of the game which include T20Is, ODIs, Ford Trophy, and Super Smash level. This is also the first time that a men’s and women’s team in a professional game are set to be a part of the same master agreement.

The White Ferns skipper Sophie Devine was quoted by news.co.nz saying, “It’s great for the international and domestic women players to be recognized in the same agreement, alongside the men. It’s a massive step forward and will be a huge drawcard for young women and girls.”
The Kiwi’s men’s team captain Kane Williamson also expressed his thoughts on the new deal. He shared, “It’s really important for the current players to build on the legacy of those who have gone before us, and to support tomorrow’s players, both men, and women, at all levels. This agreement goes a long way towards achieving that.”

NZC chief executive David White spoke how the joint agreement is a major representation of progress being made by New Zealand in professional cricket. He said, “I want to thank and congratulate the players and the Major Associations for their part in reaching such a significant agreement.”
White added, “This is the most important agreement in our sport, as it binds NZC, the Major Associations, and our players at the hip, and sets the foundation to fund, grow and develop cricket. It represents a significant step forward as we continue to grow our investment in women’s cricket.”
The agreement will come into effect from August 1 and sees improved pay and conditions for the cricketers associated with NZC. The men’s and women’s professional players are set to earn 29.75% of all NZC forecast revenue over the next five years which can rise as high as upto $104m.
This results in the highest-ranked White Ferns players potentially earning $163,246 annually, which is a massive jump from $83,432. The new deal sees NZC provide more domestic contracts to female players with the number increasing from 54 to 72 while also adding more competitive matches for them.
