Naseem Shah opened up about his experience of playing in English county cricket. The Pakistan pacer made some strong comments after spending some time with Gloucestershire, where he played County Championship and the T20 Blast.
The 19-year-old made his first appearance in the English domestic league this summer. He was shocked with the facilities available to club cricketers at the county cricket level. Shah was left stunned with facilities at the English players’ disposal after his stint in the domestic circuit.
Shah did not shy away from comparing facilities available for budding cricketers in Pakistan and England. Speaking with Cricket Pakistan, he was quoted saying, “I think we don’t even have 30% of the facilities that are available to club cricketers here in England. I know where I’ve come from, I started playing cricket with a tape ball. When I see the cricketers playing here, it’s completely different. Here, when I play a club match, I see the ground and facilities. I think, ‘wow, these guys are so lucky. They have so many facilities’.”

He went on to reveal that while major cities like Lahore and Karachi have good facilities, some parts of Pakistan require upgrades in facilities. Naseem Shah added, “When we look at our cricket, most players come from places where it’s difficult to avail facilities. In places like Lahore, and Karachi, there are good arrangements. But from where I belong, there was no cricket ground. You couldn’t play cricket with a hard ball. Even if Pakistan can have a small percentage of facilities available in England, you will see many more cricketers coming from our country.”
