Mumbai Indians have begun their preparations for the next edition of the Indian Premier League(IPL). The 5-time IPL winners are all set to visit England for a three-week exposure tour. The upcoming tour is set to kick off in July and is meant to help their uncapped Indian players.
One of the most successful teams in the IPL, MI had a torrid time out in India’s cash rich league in the previous season. They ended up winning just four games from 14 matches in IPL 2022. Finishing at the last position on the IPL table, Mumbai Indians have now begun their preparations with an exposure tour.
The young players in the Mumbai Indians setup will be given an opportunity to train in state-of-the-art facilities. They are also scheduled to take on various top teams from multiple counties and play over ten T20 games during their trip to England.

PTI has quoted an unnamed source with, “Tilak Varma, Kumar Kartikeya, Ramandeep Singh, Hrithik Shokeen are some of the players who will get exposure playing against top T20 club sides in trying conditions. Arjun Tendulkar, who is also in the UK and South African youngster Dewald Brevis are also likely to join the touring party.”
Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene will be part of the contingent touring England. He, along with key members of the support staff will keep a keen eye on the progress of the players.
MI is the first IPL franchise to conduct an overseas tour. Since it is a one of a kind trip, questions arise on the rules and regulations on it. However, the unnamed source has shared that Mumbai Indians don’t need any permission from BCCI. Since the sole purpose of the tour is player’s development with no commercial aspect attached, MI does not need any clearance for this trip.
The PTI source was also quoted saying, “This trip isn’t a commercial one where there will be tickets sold or the match will be broadcast on a particular channel or streamed on some app. Since the trip isn’t a revenue generator, we don’t need to apply for any permission from BCCI.”
