MI started announcing some of its partners on Instagram a few days ago. In a surprising turn of events, Mumbai Indians announced a partnership with one of the biggest media franchises in the world, Pokemon. The post was an image consisting of the logos of Mumbai Indians and Pokemon. The post had the caption, “We’re ecstatic to announce our official alliance for the season! Ready to explore new territories and capture victories together!” As soon as this post went up, fans went into a frenzy over this cricket and gaming/anime crossover.

As if the partnership was not enough, Mumbai Indians decided to shock the fans again and posted about their partnership with Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI). No details regarding this cricket and gaming crossover have been revealed to the public yet, but fans have already started speculating. BGMI recently partnered with Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya.
They released ‘Hardik Crate’ in October 2023, which featured various kinds of banners. It also includes two in-game outfits sporting Pandya’s name and jersey number. There was also a World Cup Exchange Centre, which rewarded players for completing tasks.
Fantasy gaming is something that has been involved with cricket for a very long time. Companies like Dream11 and My11Circle have been actively involved in the sport in India. They have also had some huge partnerships with different teams. However, the deals between MI and Pokemon and MI and BGMI are something very unique. This could mean the next step for the crossover between two of the biggest industries in India.
The gaming industry is going through an exponential rise in India. Meanwhile, cricket has always been one of the biggest, if not the biggest, industries in India. Cricket is considered a religion in the country, and this step could be a huge move between the cricket and gaming industry.
