MS Dhoni To Captain; Gaikwad Ruled Out Of IPL 2025

Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MS Dhoni) has been named the captain of the Chennai Super Kings for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out for the remainder of the season. Gaikwad picked up an elbow injury during Chennai Super Kings’ match against the Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on 30th March. Ruturaj Gaikwad picked up an elbow injury against the Rajasthan Royals after he was struck on his unprotected elbow after stepping out to fast bowler Tushar Deshpande and missing the ball in the second over of CSK’s unsuccessful chase. Gaikwad continued to bat despite this injury and ended up scoring 63 runs in that game. He continued to play for the Chennai Super Kings and played in two more games after this, and this seems to have aggravated the injury even further. The new injury seems to be hampering Gaikwad from being involved in games, and he has now been ruled out of the remainder of the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League.

Chennai Super Kings’ coach, Stephen Fleming, spoke about this on Thursday. He said:

“He got hit in Guwahati. He’s been operating with an amount of pain. We got an X-ray, which was inconclusive, and we had an MRI, which revealed a fracture in his elbow, in the radial neck. So we’re disappointed and feel for him. We appreciate the efforts that he’s gone to in terms of trying to play, but unfortunately, he’d be out of the tournament from now. We have an uncapped player, MS Dhoni, who will take over as captain for the remainder of the IPL.”

While the loss of Ruturaj Gaikwad will be a very big one for the Chennai Super Kings, the fans of the franchise actually seem to be happy as they will get to witness MS Dhoni captain CSK once again. While there were rumours of a possible retirement for Dhoni going on just last week, this seems to have completely turned on its head, and now MS Dhoni is set to act as CSK’s captain for the remainder of the season. It will surely be an incredibly tough task for Dhoni, and CSK has managed to win just one of their five games so far. It will be interesting to see if Dhoni can turn things around for CSK.
