MS Dhoni And CSK Snub Jadeja For Captaincy; Ruturaj Gaikwad Appointed

MS Dhoni has decided to step down as Chennai Super Kings captain. This announcement was surprisingly made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). After the announcement was made public, the team took to twitter to announce and confirm the same news. Chennai Super Kings announced that MS Dhoni has handed over captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad. The young Indian batsman will lead CSK in IPL 2024.

The veteran cricketer MS Dhoni has stepped down as the captain of Chennai Super Kings. There was a lot of speculation before the start of IPL 2024 as to when MS Dhoni would decide to retire and who would replace him as the captain. However, no one expected him to step down as captain for IPL 2024 itself. This shocking revelation comes just one day before their game against Royal Challengers Bangalore is set to take place.

Chennai Super Kings released a statement confirming that MS Dhoni had handed captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad. The statement read:

“MS Dhoni has handed over Chennai Super Kings’ captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the start of IPL 2024. Ruturaj has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2019 and has played 52 matches in IPL during this period. The team looks forward to the upcoming season.”

Ruturaj Gaikwad is regarded by many as the future of Chennai Super Kings. To reiterate this point, CSK has decided to make him the new captain. Many expected someone like Ravindra Jadeja to take over once Dhoni stepped down, but CSK have decided to go with Gaikwad instead. This shows that they are planning for the future and wanted to name a captain who would be with them for a very long time to come. This is probably one of the biggest reasons CSK decided to snub Jadeja and choose Gaikwad as MS Dhoni’s replacement as captain.

Although it is sad to see the great MS Dhoni step down as captain, many fans will also be delighted to see that Chennai Super Kings have decided to trust youngster Ruturaj Gaikwad to lead the team. Some will even be disappointed that Ravindra Jadeja was not appointed as the captain. While appointing Gaikwad will mark an exciting time for the team, it is a risky move. He does not have the experience that someone like Ravindra Jadeja has and the move to snub Jadeja and appoint Gaikwad as the captain may end up backfiring.
