Centuries are regarded as one of the most prestigious milestones in cricket, with all batsmen looking to cross the 100-run mark in every game they play. While cricket is a team sport and players are told to ignore personal milestones and concentrate on the bigger picture, something like a century always sneaks into the batsman’s game, with the player going a little slower as he nears the century mark so that he can secure the milestone. This article talks about the players who have had the most centuries in every year since 2015.

Steve Smith ended 2020 with the most number of centuries that year despite only managing to hit three hundreds that year. This was probably due to the extremely reduced number of games due to the COVID-19 outbreak, which saw people stay under lockdown for most of the year, which led to very limited cricket being played throughout the year. Steve Smith managed to hit three hundreds, all of them coming in One Day Internationals (ODIs) and all coming against India (131 runs in 132 balls, 105 runs in 66 balls, and 104 runs in 64 balls).
Joe Root is an English professional cricketer who is mostly known for his test cricket performances. Despite mainly concentrating on only one format, he is regarded as one of the greatest cricket players of all time. He ended 2021 having hit six centuries, the most by any cricketer that year. Root scored all six of his hundreds in test matches, with four out of his six hundreds coming against India (218 runs in 377 balls, 180 runs in 321 balls, 109 runs in 172 balls, and 121 runs in 165 balls) while he scored the other two centuries against Sri Lanka (228 runs in 321 balls and 186 runs in 309 balls).

Two out of these eight hundreds came in the Test format against West Indies (121 runs in 206 balls) and Sri Lanka (166 runs in 110 balls), while six of his hundreds came in the One Day International (ODI) format.
