The biggest endorsement deal by a startup in the last few years, Mobile Premier League (MPL) roped with right-handed batsman and the captain of the Indian cricket team, Virat Kohli as their brand ambassador in a 12 Crore deal in March 2019. And once more, the news made headlines yesterday that Kohli continues to represent and endorse the brand across channels.
MPL, one of India’s biggest mobile gaming and skill monetization platform, launched video campaigns with the cricketer to gain momentum before the Indian Premier League (IPL). Back in April 2019, Virat was also featured on TVC campaign #GameKheloHeroBano. In 2019, the CEO and co-founder of MPL Srinivas Kiranas stated “Virat will help us build a strong defensible brand with moats around it,” further adding that the application already reached around 8 million downloads with players spending hours on the platform. And ultimately, garnering MPL a user base of 32 million and over 5 billion gameplays, according to a press release.
“I am happy to announce that I have renewed my association with Mobile Premier League (MPL). In just over a year, I have seen this young Indian start-up grow and reach fans across India. I look forward to supporting them in achieving their goal of being the number one gaming company in India,” said Kohli.
Recently, the 75-second content went viral on social media when MPL released a digital video campaign that featured the top 10 winners of their ‘Meet Virat’ contest for a day in Mumbai which represented the user-centric branding of MPL.
With the extension of Kohli’s representation, Srinivas expressed, “We are honoured and privileged to have Virat continue his association with the MPL family. With his love and support, we have started to march towards our goal of democratising esports and skill monetisation across India. Virat, his persona, and his positivity resonates across our youth, and along with him, we are looking forward to doing our bit to empower the immensely large talent pool in our country.”
