Michael Vaughan feels that the Indian cricket team does not have enough for the bowling options for the highly anticipated T20 World Cup. The former England captain feels that India’s lack of options in the bowling department could hurt them at the ICC event T20 World Cup which is set to be played in Australia later this year.
The 47-year-old has expressed concerns on the bowling depth of Men in Blue boosts and feels that the Indian team management will have a tough task at hand while selecting the squad. Michael Vaughan also calls the Rohit Sharma-led team to be one of the favorites to win the ICC event.
Speaking to Cricbuzz, the former English captain said, “India is a talented bunch, and they should be right up there with the favorites for the T20 World Cup. But they’ve got to find a better mechanism. I just worry about the bowling options for India. I don’t know if they have got enough. They always seem to have five bowling options and six batters.”
“I personally would want seven options in T20 cricket. It’s about trying to find players in the top 5, who can offer you overs. Maybe Hardik Pandya bats in the Top 5. That makes your line-up a bit thicker. But I do worry for India that they don’t have enough bowling options,” Vaughan added.
India kick-started their preparations for the ICC T20 World Cup after the 5-match T20I series against South Africa at home. The Men in Blue went on to draw the series 2-2 against the Proteas and later went to play 2-T20I against Ireland. Hardik Pandya took charge of the team which saw many second-string players get a chance to play for the country.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, Avesh Khan, and Axar Patel played all the T20’s against South Africa. Indian team head coach Rahul Dravid decided to stick with them with Pandya acting as the sixth bowler.
The likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja did not feature in any of those T20I’s with the duo preparing for the Test match in England. However, they are set to make a comeback for the white ball series and will be available for selection form the 2nd T20I against the Three Lions.
The Indian team management has been exploring all the options available at their disposal and will be keen on shortlisting their picks for the World Cup. The upcoming three-match T20I series against England, followed up with the tour to West Indies and Asia Cup will give Dravid and co a good opportunity to select the bowlers. It remains interesting to see what the Indian think tank has in mind, and who gets to be on the flight to Australia later this year.
