Michael Jordan Now Invests in DraftKings

The gambling industry is slowly slouching its way towards the mainstream arena. Sports gambling has seen a boom in America, and has been becoming legal in more and more states across the country. So much so, even television broadcasts of games have begun showing live betting odds.

To join the bandwagon is our very own Michael Jordan, the ace basketball player. Jordan began hitting the casino before playoff games to making six-figure bets on the golf course. He will be making his passion into his new occupation by joining hands with DraftKings as an investor and special adviser to the sports betting and fantasy sports company.

DraftKings on Wednesday announced that Jordan will be joining their company and providing guidance and strategic advice to DraftKings’ board of directors. Jason Robins, the CEO and co-founder of DraftKings said, “Michael Jordan is among the most important figures in sports and culture, who forever redefined the modern athlete and entrepreneur. The strategic counsel that Michael brings to our board is invaluable, and we are excited to have him join our team.” The ace basketball player will be receiving an equity stake in the sports betting and fantasy sports company. Some say, Jordan’s charm has already worked its way as Draftkings stock is up nearly 16% in pre-market trading.

The former basketball pro was known for spending hours together at casinos even during the season. Despite the long hours his performance during the game would never get affected. He would start high-stakes card games on the team plane and play various betting games with his security guards in the locker room. The golf course is where Jordan did most of his gambling, though. He can’t play a round of golf without adding a betting element to it. Many believe Jordan has a gambling problem, but he wishes to call it a ‘competition problem’.

Celebrities from across the globe have now been investing and assisting with this global industry. Closer home, several bollywood celebrities such as Arjun Rampal, Minissha Lamba have also been associated with the poker industry.
