Mark Boucher Appointed As Mumbai Indians’ New Head Coach

Mumbai Indians have announced the appointment of former South Africa wicket keeper Mark Boucher as their new coach. The Proteas legend was previously reported to be the next  head coach of the most successful teams in the Indian Premier League after his tenure with South Africa men’s national team comes to an end. 

Currently the SA team head coach, Boucher is set to step down from his current position after the completion of the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia. His stint with Mumbai India is set to begin before the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League.

Mumbai Indians’ announce Mark Boucher’s appointment  

 

The MI head coach role opened up after Mahela Jayawardene switched his role within the Mumbai Indians group alongside Zaheer Khan. The duo will now work with various teams owned by the Ambani family which includes the team in IPL, ILT20 and the SA20 league.

Mark Boucher previously worked as the coach of the Titans, and led them to five domestic titles after his retirement. Later in 2019, The ex cricketer was appointed by Cricket South Africa as the head coach. The Proteas managed to win 23 T20Is, 12 ODIs and 11 Test matches under his leadership.

The record-holding wicket-keeper spoke about his appointment and was quoted by Mumbai Indians website saying, “It is an honor and privilege to be appointed as Head Coach of MI. Their history and achievements as a franchise clearly put them up there as one of the most successful sporting franchises in all of world sport.”

“I look forward to the challenge and respect the need for results. It’s a strong unit with great leadership and players. I look forward to adding value to this dynamic unit,” Mark Boucher added.

Chairman and team owner of Mumbai Indians, Akash. Ambani, stated, “It’s a pleasure to welcome Mark Boucher to Mumbai Indians. With his proven expertise on the field and off it as a coach guiding his team to numerous victories, Mark will add immense value to MI and take forward its legacy.”
