LLC CEO Reveals Sourav Ganguly’s Charge For Playing ONE Match

The Legends League Cricket (LLC) organizers had earlier announced a one-of-a-kind match to celebrate the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence. The one-off game is set to be played a day before the competition starts and is set to have former India skipper and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly feature in that match. The game is set to be played by India Maharajas and World Giants at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. While Ganguly will lead India Maharajas, the World Giants will be captained by former England skipper Eoin Morgan.

Earlier, Sourav Ganguly had gone on record stating that he will not be participating in the Legends League Cricket. However, just a few days later, the former Indian skipper confirmed his participation in the one off game. The BCCI’s presidents’ decision to play raised questions amongst fans alleging that money influenced Ganguly to play in the one-of-a-kind game.

Check out Raman Raheja’s statement on Sourav Ganguly

It is reported that a group called ‘Active Forum for Justice’ questioned the former India captain’s involvement via an email which was addressed to BCCI Secretary Jay Shah. It read as, “BCCI is a trust and Mr. Sourav Ganguly is the President in an ‘office of no profit’. How is then Ganguly charging money to play in Legends League Cricket T20 (LLC T20) whose founder and MD Raman Raheja is blacklisted by ICC for previous financial irregularities in 2019.”

While opting against answering on the allegations made against him, Raman Raheja confirmed that Ganguly will not charge any money for the match. The LLC CEO was quoted by My Khel saying, “No, Sourav Ganguly is not charging anything for this match.” He added, “This is a special match dedicated to the 75th year of Independence. We are working on a few particular topics that the league will assist with. We do not want to call it a charity game.”

The 2nd season of the upcoming Legends League Cricket has come under scrutiny with reports from IANS suggesting visa problems for Pakistan players, who have been drafted for the tournament.  The visa issue was not much of a hassle as the first season of the tournament was played in Muscat.

However, with the tournament set to be played in India this time around, getting visas for Pakistani cricketers could be troublesome. India and BCCI have no cricket ties with Pakistan amid the political tensions between both the countries. It remains interesting to see what the future holds for the players drafted in the second season of LLC T20.
