Liverpool has approached Newcastle United about signing their Swedish striker, Alexander Isak. While Newcastle United have been quite clear that they do not intend to sell Isak, Liverpool feels like they may be able to convince them to do so and is reportedly prepared to make a bid of up to £120 million to bring the talented striker to Anfield. While this will still be quite a tough task, the Magpies may be convinced to part ways with the Swedish star for the right price. The Reds also plan on enforcing pressure on Newcastle by making a move for Hugo Ekitike, one of their targets, if the Magpies decide to keep Isak at the club and not sell.

Isak has rapidly emerged as one of the Premier League’s most dynamic strikers. Since his 2022 move from Real Sociedad, he has simply been phenomenal and is quite easily one of the best strikers in the Premier League as of now. His gameplay, which combines physical presence, intelligent movement, finishing ability, and pressing off the ball, aligns perfectly with Liverpool’s tactical philosophy under their new manager, Arne Slot, which is why Liverpool is trying so hard to bring him to Anfield. Newcastle United ended up qualifying for the Champions League on the final day thanks to Manchester United beating Aston Villa. If the Magpies did not have UCL football, it would have been easier for Liverpool to sign Isak.

Newcastle United have been targeting Hugo Ekitike throughout the transfer window but have failed to agree on a price with Eintracht Frankfurt. They have sent a bid worth €80 million, but this has been rejected as Frankfurt believes that the French striker is worth more than that. The Magpies are targeting Ekitike not as a replacement for Isak but as a partner for him up front. They want to play both Isak and Ekitike as dual strikers, but this may now become impossible. It has been reported that Liverpool is closely monitoring Ekitike’s situation and will choose to sign the French striker if they cannot secure Isak, thereby limiting Newcastle United’s options in the transfer market.

If reports are true, it means Newcastle United will have to choose between keeping Alexander Isak at the club or letting him go and signing Hugo Ekitike. The Reds have made an incredible play and have put the pressure on Newcastle United, who will now have to tread very carefully. The Magpies appear determined to keep Isak at the club, and it is unlikely that they will allow him to leave, meaning they will probably abandon their pursuit of Hugo Ekitike. Newcastle may end up targeting another striker if Liverpool decides to sign Ekitike, but only time will tell how this entire saga involving Liverpool, Newcastle, Isak, and Ekitike is resolved in this window.
Liverpool’s £120 million approach for Alexander Isak is a major signal that shows that they mean business. However, the deal is far from secured. Newcastle’s reticence, Isak’s contract length, emerging alternatives, and financial regulations all present formidable roadblocks. Still, with strategic negotiation, fan backing, and tactical alignment, Liverpool could very well pull off one of the most significant transfers in club history, redefining their forward line for years to come. If they do end up signing the Swedish striker, this will be one of the best transfer windows in Liverpool’s history, and brilliant signings like Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak will surely go a long way in helping the Reds in their title defence in the 2025/26 season.
