KL Rahul is rumored to be ruled out for the entire duration of the Men in Blue’s five-match T20I series. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter, who recently tested positive for Covid-19 last week, ended his isolation period on Wednesday. Earlier, he was expected to join the team for a few T20I games but was not ruled out for the entirety of the series.
Rahul had been training at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru looking to regain his fitness after going under the knife last month. The 31-year-old travelled to Germany in June where he underwent a sports hernia surgery. He was expected to remain doubtful for the T20I matches despite having two mandatory negative tests. However, ESPNcricinfo has shared that Rahul has been advised additional rest by BCCI professionals which has ruled him out for the whole tour.
The 31-year-old was rumored to be a part of the Indian team for the USA leg of the West Indies T20Is. He was expected to join the Men in Blue for T20I matches on August 6 and 7. However, depending on his cardiovascular tests, Rahul has been advised to rest for 1 more week. As per latest reports, BCCI is not expected to to make any replacement in the team. The likes of Ishan Kishan or Rishabh Pant are expected to get the opportunity to open with Rohit Sharma in KL Rahul’s absence.
He is now expected to shift his entire focus on India’s upcoming tour to Zimbabwe. India is all set to play a few ODIs against the minnows which will be a part of the World Cup Super League. The 3-match ODI series will start on 18 August and end on 22 July. It will be a good platform for KL Rahul to get some much-needed match fitness with India’s Asia Cup campaign set to begin on August 27 in the UAE.
