KL Rahul returns to the Indian national team squad after nearly a three month hiatus from competitive cricket due to injury and health issues. He is all set to lead the Men in Blue in the 3-match One Day international (ODI) series against Zimbabwe with the first game set to be played at Harare on 18th August.
The 31-year-old will return to the country where he began his white-ball career and registered a century on ODI debut. Six years later, he is back to Zimbabwe as the captain of the Indian team and will be leading the Men in Blue for the second series in his career.
Speaking with ESPNCricinfo, the Indian star revealed how he is looking forward to leading the side in the series. KL Rahul goes on to add that he has fond memories in the country and will look to add more to those memories. The 31-year-old is quoted saying, “My ODI and T20I debut was in Harare, I got a 100 in my first game, so I have great memories here. Hopefully can add on to those memories.”
He added, “Coming back here after so many years and getting the opportunity to lead your country, obviously when you look back, it’s very pleasing. As a person, you can see how much you’ve grown and how far you’ve come as a player. It gives me great joy. Hopefully can add to those good memories and play some good cricket over the next week.”

Despite playing only in his second series as an Indian team captain, KL Rahul has the experience of leading a side as he has captained various franchises in the Indian Premier League for a while. The 31-year-old went on to add how he feels that a captain should be true to himself. He also states that players will not be under no pressure to perform differently and given the chance to express themselves.
“I’m still young, this is just my second series as captain. But my personality is such that I feel only when a captain is true to himself, it spreads to the other players. I am a calm person, so I can’t go out there and try to be someone else. I try to be myself and let the other players be themselves and express themselves as they want to. There will be no pressure on the players to be different,” KL Rahul claimed.
