Virat Kohli has claimed all the limelight after the 33-year-old scored his must awaited 71st international century in Asia Cup 2022. Playing as an opener in the latest outing against Afghanistan the middle order batter remained unbeaten 122 runs off 61 balls which included 12 fours and 6 sixes. Riding on Kohli’s knock, India went on to end their Asia Cup 2022 campaign with a massive 101 run victory.
The former Indian skipper was well supported by KL Rahul who scored 62 off 41 balls. The 31-year-old opener was also captaining the team this time around in the absence of Rohit Sharma, who was rested for this game. Rahul had recently come back from a long injury layoff and was inconsistent in Asia Cup 2022. However, the Karnataka based star finally managed to get going by scoring a half century and propel the Men in Blue on the winning ways.
With Kohli’s latest exploits’ seeing him score a century after playing as an opener, many cricket fans want him batti right at the top in T20Is. KL Rahul was asked whether Virat Kohli should open the innings when he spoke with the media during the post-match press conference. He replied to the question after coming up with a cheeky response and sheepish smile.
While answering the question on Kohli playing as an opener, KL Rahul said, “Toh Mein Kya Khud Baith Jaau fir? (Shall I bench myself then). Obviously, Virat Kohli scoring run is a huge bonus for the team, the way he played today I know he is very very pleased with the way he batted today – he has been working on his game for the last 2-3 series and that worked beautifully today and as a team.
“It is important that every player before going to the World Cup get some time in the middle. If you play 2-3 innings like that, your confidence will be high then it gives you the best chance to be our best selves in the World Cup, so really happy that he could play that way,” KL Rahul added.

He said, “We have all seen Virat Kohli over the years, it is not that only when he opens, he scores five hundreds, he can score 5-6 centuries even if he bats at No 3. “
“It is all about the role in the team and today he played the role beautifully, maybe in the next series his role is different he will do that with his best performances and we have seen that over the years and there is no question mark over that,” KL Rahul added.
