Kevin De Bruyne Signs For Serie A Side Napoli

Kevin De Bruyne is a Belgian professional footballer who, until very recently, played for Premier League side Manchester City. He is regarded as one of the best attacking midfielders of his generation, but due to his advanced age, Manchester City decided not to extend his contract with the club and allowed the talented star to leave for free. Once the news got out that De Bruyne was set to leave the club, many top clubs instantly showed interest, and Kevin De Bruyne was linked with several top clubs for a long time. However, the Belgian star has now made up his mind about which club he will be joining and will sign up for Serie A side Napoli.

Kevin De Bruyne is 33 years old, but he still has a few years left at the top of his game. While Manchester City deemed him to be too old to be playing competitively in the Premier League, the Serie A champions from last season, Napoli, decided that he would be an incredible addition to their squad, especially as they do not have to pay City a transfer fee and can sign a player of De Bruyne’s calibre for free. The Belgian star will be a fantastic addition to an already brilliant squad that was very dominant in the Serie A in the 2024/25 season and managed to win the Serie A title ahead of league rivals Inter Milan.

De Bruyne started his career while playing for Genk before being signed by Chelsea in 2012. However, his first move to the Premier League did not work out, and it was after moving to the Bundesliga that he made a name for himself. The Belgian star played for Werder Bremen and VfL Wolfsburg before Manchester City decided to sign him. The English club signed him ahead of the 2015/16 season, and the attacking midfielder has played for them ever since. Kevin De Bruyne stayed at the club for a decade and made 422 appearances for the club across all competitions, but he has now announced that he will be leaving the club after City decided not to renew his contract.

Kevin De Bruyne will be a brilliant addition to the midfield of Serie A side Napoli. The midfield three consisted of Stanislav Lobotka, Billy Gilmour, and Serie A’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Napoli’s best player last season, Scott McTominay. The Scottish midfielder used to play for Manchester United but has taken a much more attacking role for Napoli. This will be enhanced even further with the signing of Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian star will be able to control the midfielder, giving McTominay freer rein while attacking. However, the addition of De Bruyne will benefit not only the midfield but also the attack, and Napoli striker Romelu Lukaku will be looking to utilize De Bruyne’s amazing passing.

Despite his advanced age, De Bruyne is still considered to be one of the best attacking midfielders in the world, and the addition of such a player will surely help Napoli defend the Serie A title next season. While we know the Belgian star will surely be starting for the club, it will be interesting to see which player gets sacrificed to make way for Kevin De Bruyne. Given the fact that Scott McTominay was Napoli’s best player in the 2024/25 season, it is safe to say that he too will be starting for Napoli, which leaves one spot in the midfield open, and only time will tell which player ends up taking this spot.
