The schedule of the highly anticipated Asia Cup 2022 has been announced on Tuesday. The tournament will kick off on August 27 with Sri Lanka taking on Afghanistan in the tournament opener. Later, archrivals and sub continental counterparts India and Pakistan are scheduled to go head to head at the Dubai International Stadium.
Asian Cricket Council chief Jay Shah shared the fixture list of the tournament from his official Twitter handle. His Tweet read, “The wait is finally over as the battle for Asian supremacy commences on 27th August with the all-important final on 11th September. The 15th edition of the Asia Cup will serve as ideal preparation ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup.”

The Asia Cup 2022 is all set to be hosted by Sri Lanka Cricket. Earlier, the tournament was scheduled to be played in Sri Lanka. However, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) was forced to look at alternative options citing the ongoing political and economic crisis in the islandic nation. Citing the issues in Sri Lanka, the ACC decided to play the the Asia Cup 2022 in UAE.
The upcoming tournament is set to commence on 27 August with the final set to be played on September 11. The Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi Cricket Stadium and Sharjah Cricket Stadium, are the three named grounds that will host the entire Asia Cup 2022.

A total of 6 teams are set to participate in the upcoming edition of Asia Cup. The likes of India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Afghanistan have directly qualified for the tournament so far. Teams in UAE, Kuwait, Hong Kong and Singapore are set to play the qualifiers in order to claim the remaining slot in the six nation tournament. All four teams won their respective regional qualifiers and will be eager to do well in the final rounds of the qualifiers which kick off on August 20.
The upcoming 2022 Asia Cup is set to be played in T20 format and will act as a platform for teams to prepare for the T20 World Cup. The ICC event is scheduled to be played in Australia, later this year. India head into Asia Cup as the defending champions having defeated Bangladesh in a last-ball thriller in 2018.
