According to various reports, Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the highly anticipated ICC T20 World Cup. The 28 year old speedster is reported to have suffered a fracture in his back which could sideline him out of action for nearly six months.
Questions have been raised on the player’s fitness after India’s premier pacer missed the Asia Cup 2022 due to a back injury. Later on, he was rested for the first T20I clash against Australia before coming back in the playing XI for the remaining 2 games of the three match series.
However, the 28 year old was again ruled out of the series-opener against South Africa on Wednesday, 28th September. With Jasprit Bumrah likely to miss the highly anticipated ICC T20 World Cup, Let’s look at a few players that will benefit from the injury.
The speedster has fared quite well for the Indian cricket team whenever given a chance to don the national colours. Despite coming back from a long injury lay off, he did a great job against Zimbabwe as well as the Asia Cup. Currently featuring in the ongoing South Africa’s tour to India, the bowler has shown great promise with the new ball while forming a good partnership with Arshdeep Singh.

Currently a part of the reserve team that was listed alongside India’s T20 World Cup squad, an injury to Jasprit Bumrah can be Deepak Chahar’s way in the final 15. His batting ability will also prove to be quite handy on the big grounds of Australia. His inclusion in the team can prove to be of much value for Rohit Sharma and co at the ICC mega event.
Mohammad Shami
Just like Chahar, Shami too finds himself on the 4-man reserve list as players kept on standby for the ICC T20 World Cup squad. An injury to Jasprit Bumrah has opened up the doors for the veteran speedster to come back into the Indian team.
Despite being axed from the national squad in the shortest format of the game, Mohammad Shami was expected to make a comeback in T20Is after a solid outing in the IPL 2022. He was named in the Men in Blue squad for the T20I series against Australia as well as South Africa before being ruled out of participation after testing positive for COvid-19.
However, the speedster now has the opportunity to break into India’s final 15 in the World Cup squad. Shami’s seam position and bowling style are tailor made for Australian pitches. The 32 year old will surely prove to be an invaluable asset as Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement in the Rahul Dravid coach side.
Umran Malik
The Jammu and Kashmir pacer is a major wild card who could replace Jasprit Bumrah in India’s T20 World Cup squad. The 24 year old bowler shined for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League which earned him a national team call up. Despite featuring against Ireland, Malik well a little off the radar and was recently seeing playing for India A against New Zealand A.
Umran looked to be in good rhythm against the Kiwis and could be a trump card for the Men in Blue in Australia. His raw pace and ability to consistently deliver balls at the speed in excess of 150 kmph will be a major boost for India. Also, with Shami and Chahar most likely to make the cut in the final 15, a spot on the reserve list opens up which could also see the youngster join the team and fly to Australia for the ICC mega event.
