Jasprit Bumrah Reclaims Top Spot In ICC Men’s ODI Rankings

Jasprit Bumrah has jumped five spots to regain his position as the number one bowler in the latest ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings. The Indian speedster claimed the position after registering his career-best figures of 6/19 against England in the first ODI.

Bumrah ran riot against the three Lions at the Oval by getting rid of Joe Root, Jos Buttler, Jason Roy and Liam Livingstone. The 28-year-old recorded figures of 4/6 in his first four overs before coming back to pick up two more wickets in his second spell.  His fantastic outing in the first ODI propelled India to register a massive 10-wicket victory against England.

Earlier, the Indian speedster had lost his spot to Trent Boult back in February 2020. The New Zealand speedster took over from Bumrah, who was at the top for nearly 730 days, the most by an Indian bowler and ninth-most in the history of the sport. However, Bumrah has now claimed his spot back with Boult finding himself at the second position.

Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi claims the third spot with Josh Hazlewood and Mujeeb Ur Rahman completing the top five list in the latest ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings. Mohammad Shami too has gained after grabbing three for 31 and against the Three Lions. He has moved up by three slots and currently finds himself at the 23rd position, sharing it with Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Talking about the batsmen, Rohit Sharma moved closer to Virat Kohli with the Indian captain just one rating point away from matching the third-placed batter. Sharma edged near Kohli after his 76 not out innings in the first ODI against England. Shikhar Dhawan on the other end also moved also upto the 12th position after his innings of 31 at the Oval.

Moving onto the shortest format of the game, Suryakumar Yadav has moved up by 44 slots after his fantastic outing in the final T20I against England. Yadav now finds himself to be the number 5 in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings, making him the highest ranked Indian batter.

Amongst bowlers, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has broken into the top 10 list with the Indian pacer currently ranked 7th in the ICC Mens’ T20I rankings. His performances against Ireland and England see him jump seven places, making him the only Indian to be in the top 10 T20I bowlers list.
