India’s premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah is rumored to be ruled out of the highly anticipated ICC T20 World Cup. The ICC event is all set to begin in Australia next month on 16th October with the Indian cricket team playing their first game on 23rd October. The Rohit Sharma led side will square off against archrivals Pakistan at the 16 national tournament with the clash scheduled to be played at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.
According to various reports, Bumrah will miss on playing in the ICC T20 World Cup due to a back injury. Questions have been continuously raised on the speedster’s fitness as he was ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 due to a back injury as well.
After missing out on playing in the continental competition, Jasprit Bumrah missed yet another game during the recently concluded T20I series against Australia. He made a comeback to the national team for the second and the third T20I game before being ruled out of the series-opener against South Africa on Wednesday, 28th September.

The 28-year-old speedster was ruled out of the game after he complained of back pain during the team’s training session on the eve of the game. It would be right to believe that the back pain/ injury is worse than what was earlier imagined with the player clearly struggling to get back to his best. According to PTI, the bowler could be out of the action for the next 6 months.
However, there has been no official confirmation from the Indian cricket board or Jasprit Bumrah himself on the rumored injury. The Indian cricket team is currently taking on South Africa at home soil. He was expected to feature in the series before the Men in Blue fly off to Australia for the World Cup.
It remains interesting to see who walks in as Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement for the ongoing India vs South Africa series with a spot in the World Cup squad also opening up. Deepak Chahar, who is on the stand-by list and in the reserve squad of the Indian team is most likely to make the cut and break into the final 15.
It also opens up the door for Mohammad Shami to make it in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 squad. The likes of Umran Malik and Mohammed Siraj are also expected to eye a spot that would most likely open up on the reserve team list in the Indian team’s contingent.
