Suryakumar Yadav is reportedly upset with Shreyas Iyer after the middle-order star batted for long hours in the nets ahead of the second Test match against Australia. He is said to be practicing for the upcoming clash, which sees Rohit Sharma’s side take on the Aussies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi from 17th February.
Shreyas Iyer missed out on featuring in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand. He was also sidelined from playing in the first match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 at Nagpur, citing a back injury. However, the 28-year-old is fit again and is expected to walk straight back into India’s playing XI for the second test.
After completing his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, Iyer walked back in India’s middle-order for the second Test match against Australia. Suryakumar Yadav was forced to make way for the right-hander, who is back into the playing XI for the Delhi test.

Yadav, who made his much awaited test debut for India in the previous Test match at Nagpur was dismissed for eight in the first innings. Earlier, India’s head coach Rahul Dravid had already hinted that Suryakumar Yadav will probably make way for Iyer in the second test match.
Iyer has been one of the best performers for India in ODIs and Test matches over the last 18 months. He has gone on to establish himself as a vital part of the red ball set-up since making his debut in test matches back in November 2021 against New Zealand.
While interacting with the media during the press conference ahead of the second match, Dravid spoke about Shreyas Iyer’s ability to play spin. He went on to add how the batter’s temperament and skill to rescue the team from a troubled situation while playing in the middle order makes him a valuable asset to the team’s batting line-up.
Numbers back Iyer up as well with the Kolkata Knight Riders’ captain is the second-highest run scorer for India in Test cricket since his debut. The Indian team head coach made various examples recollecting Iyer’s debut innings at Kanpur on debut as well as his match-winning partnership with R Ashwin in Dhaka.
Dravid also claimed that Suryakumar Yadav understands the situation and has no problem with it. It remains interesting to see if the move works out well for India in this game. The Men in Blue will be eager to take a 2-0 lead in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023.
