Former India cricketer Irfan Pathan has not shied away from responding back on the comments of ex-Pakistan pacer Waqar Younis. The former Men in Green speedster has recently made a bold statement on the Indian top-order batting unit following the news of Shaheen Shah Afridi getting ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022.
Earlier, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday issued a statement revealing how their star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi has suffered an injury on the right knee ligament. It stated how the 22 year old speedster sustained it while fielding against Sri Lanka at the first Test in Galle and that the injury has ruled him out of the Asia Cup.
After the PCB statement, Waqar Younis took to Twitter and shared his thoughts on the young pacers’ injury news. The former cricketer went on to state that India’s top-order batting unit will be relieved to learn about Afridi’s injury and won’t have to face the left-arm pacer at the Asia Cup. He said, “Shaheen’s injury Big relief for the Indian top order batsmen. Sad we won’t be seeing him in #AsiaCup2022 Get fit soon Champ@iShaheenAfridi,” Waqar tweeted.

Notably, the 22-year-old pacer had an outing to remember in his previous encounter against the Men in Blue. Shaheen Afridi stole the show with his performance against India in 2021 as the Men in Green rode on his performances in the first innings in their previous meeting. The former Pakistan pacer got a lot of backlash on social media from several Indian fans for his tweet. Amongst those responding to Younis’ social media antics was former India star Irfan Pathan.

The all-rounder took to Twitter on 21st August, Sunday and made a sly comment to the former Pakistan pacers’ tweet. Pathan went on to assert how other teams participating in the highly anticipated Asia Cup 2022 will breathe a huge sigh of relief with star Indian pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel not participating in the 6-nation tournament. Irfan Pathan tweeted, “It’s a relief of other teams that Bumrah and Harshal aren’t playing this Asia cup!,”

The Indian Cricket team will be unavailable to call up pacer Jasprit Bumrah for the Asia Cup with the speedster ruled out due to a back injury. Harshal Patel on, the other end, is set to miss out due to a rib injury. Both the stars have not been named in the Men in Blue squad for the 6-nation tournament.
