Ireland captain Andrew Balbirnie shared his thoughts about taking on the Hardik Pandya led-team India in the upcoming 2-match T20I series. The Irish team spoke on the impact his team wants to make against India while also discussing the importance of the Indian Premier League. (IPL)
Balbirnie spoke with the media ahead of the highly anticipated T20I matches against India. He expressed keen interest in seeing Irish cricketers get the opportunity to play in India’s cash rich league and square off against one of the best players in world cricket.

Times of India has quoted Balbirnie saying, “We have a number of players who are good at the T20 format. We are all aware how competitive it is to get into the IPL. That’s a huge ambition for a lot of us. That’s the pinnacle of T20 cricket.”
He added, “You see how quickly certain players develop when they get access to the league. We have several players who play in different leagues, but not the IPL. When they come back to the Irish team, they bring a lot of experience and learning.”
The Irish skipper said the upcoming matches against India will draw crowds in the stadium. As per the official Twitter account of Ireland Cricket, both the matches in Dublin are sold out.

Balbirnie also feels India will put up a tough fight. He adds that a lot of fringe players in the Men in Blue team aiming for a place in the main team. “They have such a number of experienced players in the T20 format. They have a squad in England for the Test match and then there’s a squad that’s coming down to Ireland to play us in T20s. They are all looking to impress,” Balbirnie said
India’s tour to Ireland sees them host the Men in Blue for two T20I games on June 26 and June 28. Both the T20I’s will be played at the Malahide Cricket Club Ground in Dublin. The visiting team will see Hardik Pandya captain the team in the unavailability of KL Rahul.
India’s team also does not include the likes of Rohit Sharma, VIrat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant with the stars currently in England. VVS Laxaman will coach this side with Rahul Dravid also in England for the One-off Test match in Birmingham. In the absence of Pant Dinesh Karthik is expected to be India’s wicket keeper with the veteran star likely to don the gloves this series.
