The Indian Premier League (IPL) has become the most highly anticipated franchised-based cricket tournament since its inception in 2008. Starting off with eight teams, the IPL now consists of ten teams representing different cities in India. With 16 editions already played so far, IPL 2024 will be the 17th season of the tournament.

Shubhman Gill is the current holder of the orange cap. He Won the orange cup in 2023 with Gujarat Titans. The young batsmen had a phenomenal IPL season, scoring 890 runs for GT at an average of 59.33. Gill scored a high score of 129 against Mumbai Indians. He made 129 runs in just 60 balls to propel Gujarat Titans to a total of 233 against Mumbai Indians.
Jos Butler is the second latest recipient of the Orange cap, with the Rajasthan Royals star winning the Orange Cap in IPL 2022. He smashed 863 runs from 17 innings, helping Rajasthan Royals make it to the finals of IPL 2022. He ended up with an average of 57.53 alongside an amazing strike rate of 149.05. Butler also hit four centuries in IPL 2022 to equal the record for most centuries in an IPL season.
Chennai Super Kings star Ruturaj Gaikwad won the Orange Cap in IPL 2021. The young opener scored 636 runs in 16 matches, averaging 45.36. The 24-year-old became the youngest cricketer to win Orange Cap in IPL.
KL Rahul won the Orange Cap in IPL 2020. Captaining Punjab Kings with the opener amassed 670 runs in 14 games while averaging 55.83 while registering a strike rate of 129.34. He top-scored by hitting 132 runs off 69 balls against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in an inning filled with seven sixes and fourteen fours.
David Warner become the first player to win the Orange Cap for the third time during the 2019 edition of the tournament. Playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, the former Aussie star ended up scoring 692 runs from 12 matches to record an astonishing average of 69.20. He also registered an 185 runs partnership with Johnny Bairstow to record the highest first-wicket partnership in IPL history as well.

Playing as an opener for the IPL franchise, the explosive batter averaged 43.23 while smashing 562 runs in 14 matches. Robin Uthappa won the Orange Cap while playing in IPL 2014. The Indian opener had a brilliant season which saw him score 660 runs in 16 matches. Michael Hussey win the Orange Cap during IPL 2013 when he featured for the Chennai Super Kings. The Australian veteran consistently scored runs and was at his best during the sixth IPL season. He managed to hit four half-centuries during the season, with his 733 runs from 17 innings making him one of the most dependable batsmen in IPL that season.

His ability to pace the innings and score runs at a brisk pace makes him one of the most valuable players in the competition’s IPL history. Other Indian players like Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, as well as Suresh Raina have been among the runs in the Indian Premier League.
