IPL 2023: The Tale Of Two Expensive Bowlers

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 clash between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings can easily be summarized as a tale of two bowlers! While Arjun Tendulkar picked up his first wicket in front of the home crowd, the cheers soon shied away with Arshdeep Singh making the clash all about himself. 

Bowling first, Arjun Tendulkar started off the IPL 2023 encounter by getting rid of Prabhsimran Singh with a beautiful yorker. Despite being really sharp in his first two overs, the young bowler found himself running for cover later on. Playing at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Arjun Tendulkar ended up conceding 31 runs in his third over to hold the record of the second most expensive over by a Mumbai Indians bowler in tournament history.

Arjun now features in the list of unwanted records after the Punjab Kings duo of Sam Curran and Harpreet Singh Bhatia targeted the 16th over of the first innings. After conceding 17 runs in his first two overs, Tendulkar got smashed for four boundaries and two maximums while also bowling a no-ball in the over to concede 31 runs. From being appreciated for a splendid yorker to being targeted by trolls for a super expensive over, things turn around in a jiffy for the young lad during the IPL 2023 clash.

IPL 2023: From Arjun to Arshdeep 

Arshdeep Singh was the other speedster who managed to gather all the lime light against Mumbai Indians during the above-mentioned IPL 2023 clash. The young pacer ran riot with the ball and stunned the audience with his skills as Punjab Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by a 13-run margin. 

Arshdeep Singh’s exceptional bowling skills caught the eye during his antics in the last over of the thrilling match. He had bowled a brilliant 18th over, conceding just nine runs off it while claiming the wicket of Suryakumar Yadav. Citing his skillset, Sam Curran decided to hand him the responsibility of bowling the last over and defending 16 runs. 

Mumbai Indians batter Tim David sneaked in a single off the first ball while Singh managed to make Tilak Varma miss the delivery, resulting in a dot ball and bringing the equation down to 15 required from four for the five-time champions.

What happened next surprised everyone as Arshdeep Singh produced gave away just two runs while getting rid of MI two batters in the remaining balls. It was not his ability not to concede runs at the death but rather the back-to-back wickets he took during the IPL 2023 clash.  

The Punjab Kings pacer bowled two consecutive stunning yorkers to dismiss Tilak Verma am MI’s Impact Player Nehal Wadhera. He delivered the balls right in the blockhole to get rid of both batters in a similar fashion. Despite it being an impressive stand-alone feat, the left-armer made raves after he literally broke the stumps twice in back-to-back deliveries.

Arshdeep Singh broke the middle stump in two pieces not once but twice during the clash. As per various reports, One pair of stumps cost approximately ₹12 Lakh, and even if one stump gets damaged, the entire set becomes useless. With Arshdeep breaking two stumps in his last over, it would be fair to call his match-winning over a very expensive one citing the destruction of cricketing equipment. He ended with figures of (4/29) to win the IPL 2023 encounter for his franchise.
