IPL 2018: SRH Defend Yet Another Low Total

Like they have numerous times in the past, Sunrisers Hyderabad proved yet again that they are the masters of defending low totals. In this case, extremely low totals. They were bowled out for 118 against Mumbai Indians in their last game and still won, recording the second lowest total successfully defended in IPL history.

Like the match against Mumbai, their batting failed and were in trouble last night, having put up just 132/6 on the board. Once again, they won! We’re pretty confident that no other team in the IPL has a bowling attack capable of defending scores below 150, let alone scores of 118 and 132.

Kings XI Punjab won the toss and bowled first last night. They did extremely well to restrict SRH and picked up quite a few wickets at the start, mainly because of young Ankit Rajpoot bustling in and hitting the deck hard. He backed up his Man of the Match performance against Delhi, with another one, picking up 5/14 and recording the best figures of IPL 2018 so far.

Not many times do you see the Man of the Match award being given to a player from the losing side, and that gives you an idea of how well the 24-year may have bowled. Manish Pandey was the top scorer for SRH, with 54. All Punjab would’ve wanted at the innings break was their openers Gayle and Rahul to give them a good start and finish this game off easily.

The openers played their shots and gave the team a good start with a partnership of 55. However, everything went downhill from there with both openers being dismissed in the space of 3 balls, followed by a string of wickets and Punjab being bowled out for 119.

Once again, Sunrisers proved how they can defend any low total in the Indian Premier League. Once again, they managed this win without their leading wicket taker Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Once again, Rashid Khan put a plug on the run scoring in the middle overs and finished with outstanding figures of 3/19. Well done Sunrisers Hyderabad!

Some poor bowling towards the back-end and horrible fielding cost Punjab the game last night. After building the pressure early on, they gave away far too many runs towards the back-end and dropped quite a few easy catches. The story would’ve been different had Punjab restricted Hyderabad to a score of around 100-110. Man of the Match: Ankit Rajpoot.

Sunrisers now have 5 wins from 7 matches and are at #2 on the IPL 2018 points table. Keep watching GutshotMagazine.com for daily IPL updates and cricket match results.
