IPL 2018: Mumbai Gifts Sunrisers a Win at Wankhede

8 overs, 1 maiden, 34 runs, 5 wickets – these were the combined figures of Siddarth Kaul and Rashid Khan last night, when Sunrisers Hyderabad took on Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. 99 times out of hundred, teams should be able to chase 119 in a T20 match, but these two bowlers ensured it didn’t happen last night.

Mumbai bowled first as they lost far too many games this season because they weren’t able to defend scores. Well, guess what? They managed to choke with the bat as well. After a brilliant bowling performance, they restricted the visitors to 118 and not many would’ve thought that this score wouldn’t be chased down by Mumbai.

Kane Williamson and Yusuf Pathan both scored 29 for their team while most of the Mumbai bowlers got among the wickets. Now, all they needed to do was knock the ball around and score at a run-a-ball to get a much-needed victory in IPL 2018. However, they couldn’t do so.

They lost 3 wickets in the powerplay and were reduced to 21/3 as captain Rohit Sharma trudged back to the pavillion, having scored just 2. A steady partnership of 40 between Suryakumar Yadav and Krunal Pandya brought MI right back into the game but these two would eventually be the only two to have reached double digit scores!

What followed was absolute mayhem, with brilliant bowling and bad batting that saw MI drop from 73/4 to 87 all out. Hardik Pandya thought he would play out Rashid Khan and go after the other bowlers but nothing went as per plan. His innings of 3(19) will do nothing but raise questions about his ability as an international cricketer.

Once Kaul dismissed him, it was curtains for the Mumbai Indians, who now have just one win in 6 matches and are just above Delhi Daredevils on the IPL 2018 points table, due to a higher Net Run Rate. This win became the second lowest total defended in the history of the Indian Premier League. Mind you, SRH were playing without Bhuvneshwar Kumar & Billy Stanlake. Man of the Match: Rashid Khan.
