The Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the best domestic cricket leagues in the world. They are having a mega auction ahead of the IPL 2025 season and have introduced a new rule. This rule will see any player who has not represented India for over five years be counted as an uncapped player, and teams will be able to retain such players for a reduced cost of ₹4 Crore. This will make the IPL 2025 mega auction even more interesting, and it will be exciting to see which teams decide to take advantage of this new rule.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one of the players who will fall under the new uncapped rule ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. He last played for the Indian cricket team in a one-day international (ODI) game against New Zealand on 9th July 2019. This means Chennai Super Kings will have the option to retain MSD for just ₹4 Crore.
Mayank Markande is another player who is eligible to be retained as an uncapped player in the IPL 2025 auction. The player has made only one appearance in his international career, which came on 24th February 2019 against Australia. Despite just having made one appearance, he would be a capped player if this new rule was not introduced. However, Sunrisers Hyderabad will now have the option to retain him as an uncapped player.
Amit Mishra is another veteran who can now be retained as an uncapped player ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. The Indian bowler has played many international games across all formats, but he played his final game for India on 1st February 2017 against England. As it has been more than five years since then, he can be retained as an uncapped player for just ₹4 Crore by Lucknow Super Giants.
Piyush Chawla’s last game for India was a test match he played against England on 13th December 2012. As he has not played for India in over 11 years, he will retain his status as an uncapped player ahead of the 2025 IPL mega auction. This means that Mumbai Indians can choose to retain him for just ₹4 Crore if they decide that the spinner is a part of their future plans.

This will hold true for Sandeep Sharma as well, who can be retained by Rajasthan Royals as an uncapped player.
