Former Indian spinner Ramesh Powar takes over as Head Coach of Gujarat Cricket Team: Ramesh Powar, the former Indian spinner and India women’s cricket team coach, has been appointed the new head coach of the Gujarat domestic cricket team. The Cricket Advisory of the Gujarat Cricket Association, which includes former Indian wicketkeeper, Parthiv Patel, made the decision. Powar was the head coach of the Indian women’s team from May 2021 until December 2022.
After his stint as the head coach of the Indian women’s cricket team, Ramesh Powar was appointed as a spin bowling coach at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in December 2022. This was just before the T20I series against Australia. Powar is the second Mumbai cricketer to coach a domestic team this season, with Sulakshan Kulkarni coaching Tamil Nadu and Amol Mazumdar likely to become the coach of Baroda.

Powar served India between 2004 and 2007, featuring in six Tests and 31 One-Day Internationals and taking 40 international wickets. In addition to his international career, Powar also played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for teams like Kings XI Punjab and Kochi Tuskers Kerala. In March 2021, he coached Mumbai to victory in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, India’s premier domestic one-day competition.
Ramesh Powar said that he had a rewarding experience as the head coach of the Indian women’s cricket team. He added that he had worked with some of the best players in the country, both established and upcoming. Powar also spoke about his role as a spin bowling coach at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). He said that he was looking forward to using his experience to help develop young talent and to work with NCA head coach VVS Laxman to improve the game in India.
Under Ramesh Powar’s leadership, the Indian women’s cricket team competed in the 2022 ODI World Cup. They were eliminated in the group stage with three wins from seven matches. However, the team bounced back to win the silver medal in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham last year.
