DS Chauhan, the additional commissioner of police, spoke to Hindustan Times stating how the Hyderabad Cricket Association did not make any proper arrangements at the grounds. He shared that there was no queue to be followed at the ticket counters. It resulted in a lot of people pushing each other, finding a way to get ahead and buy the match tickets.
As the situation turned worse, police forces available on the ground and nearby areas were forced to rush at the venue and conduct lathi-charge to disperse the crowd. It led to a stampede-like situation that resulted in injuries to many people.
Chauhan said, “This led to a stampede-like situation. Some of the people, including a woman, fell unconscious in the melee. We immediately rushed them to a corporate hospital nearby and they are out of danger. Some police personnel, too, sustained injuries in the attack by the angry mob.”
The additional commissioner of police went on to reveal how there were no arrangements of drinking water for the fans by the HCA and that stringent action could be taken against the board. Chauhan claimed, “We shall inquire into the lapses of the Hyderabad Cricket Association and issue notices to the management for questioning.”
According to reports, the line of people gathering at the ground to buy the tickets offline stretched up to a kilometer. Cricket fans have been reported to turn up at Gymkhana grounds since Wednesday morning or visit the HCA office in order to buy the match tickets. The breakdown of servers which saw people face issues while trying to buy the tickets online did not help the cause.
