Arch-rivals India and Pakistan could square off once again before their highly anticipated tie on 23rd October in the T20 World Cup. Various media reports are suggesting that both the sub-continental teams could square off against each other in the upcoming Asia Cup.
The 2022 edition of the Asia Cup is scheduled to be played in Sri Lanka from 27th August and is expected to see India square off against Pakistan on August 28. The hosts are expected to lock horns against Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is expected to announce the schedule for the 15th edition of the Asia Cup soon. Earlier, the questions were raised over the future of the tournament given the political and economic crisis in Sri Lanka. However, the island country was keen on having the tournament in Sri Lanka itself and were given the green light to host it between 27th August to 11th September.

Mohan de Silva, secretary of the SLC, was quoted by Cricbuzz saying, “We will leave it to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to make the announcement. But our board president Shammi Silva has informed Jay Shah, the president of ACC, about our preparedness to hold the event.”
The upcoming tournament is expected to be played in the T20 format as it will help teams prepare for the highly anticipated T20 World Cup. The ICC event is all set to be played in Australia from October-November. This is only the second time in Aisa Cup’s history that the tournament will played in the T20 format with the first instance coming back in 2016. India won the Cup that year by defeating hosts Bangladesh in the final.
India will be eager to settle scores with Pakistan with the Men in Blue suffering from an empathic loss during their previous head to head encounter. Babar Azam’s men went on to record a 10-wicket win in the group stages of the T20 World Cup last year, breaking a 29 year World Cup record.
The Men in Blue will rely on team captain Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid to see the team through this time round. However, India will face a tough task in the form of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan. The duo will be a major threat to the bowlers while left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi will tubule the batter with the new ball.
