India Hit The Fastest Team 100 In Test Cricket History

India shattered the record for the fastest team 100 against Bangladesh on 30th September 2024. The first innings ended just after lunch on the fourth day due to nearly two days being lost because of rain. It looked like a draw would be the obvious choice, but India was not ready to give in just yet. They came out all guns blazing and broke the record for the fastest team fifty in history, reaching it in just 18 balls. They broke England’s record of 26 balls against West Indies.

While they looked to be on an impressive charge, Mehidy Hasan managed to pick up the wicket of Rohit Sharma and forced Shubman Gill to come in. This slowed down team India for a while, but Yashasvi Jaiswal decided to continue the bold approach and started going after the bowlers once again. While the spinners seemed to be pulling the run rate back, any lose ball was fiercely punished by the batsmen on the crease.

While Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma were both attacking like wild beasts, Shubman Gill decided to take a separate approach. He rotated the strike, giving the in-form batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal the strike. This made it easier for Jaiswal to remain in rhythm and blasted a fifty in just 31 balls. Such quick hitting is the reason India were able to beat the record for the fastest team 100 by making it in just 61 balls. The record before this game was held by India itself, who reached a team 100 in just 74 balls against New Zealand.
