The Indian cricket team are currently playing the Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. This is one of the most looked-forward-to-test series in the world, and this time, alongside pride, there is also the WTC qualification on the line. The third test match was littered with interruptions by the rain, with the best chance of a result being that Australia could force India to take a follow-on and bat again. While Australia were very close to making this happen, brilliant tail-end performances by Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep helped them avoid this.

The Indian Cricket Team found themselves in a very tough position in the third test match against Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Australia batted first, and brilliant innings by Steve Smith (101 runs in 190 balls), Travis Head (152 runs in 160 balls), and Alex Carey (70 runs in 88 balls) saw the Australian Cricket Team propel to a brilliant score of 445. After the ease with which Australia batted, everyone thought that the Men in Blue would also put forth a similar performance, but that did not turn out to be the case.
While the play was continuously stopped by rains, even in the periods that India did get to bat, they were unable to get any kind of momentum going. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant all failed to even reach double figures before losing their wickets. Despite a lot of the time being taken away by rains, it looked like India would lose the game, especially if Australia were able to bowl them out with a lead of over 200 runs and enforce a follow-on.

Most of the Indian batting line-up failed to offer a decent defence, but KL Rahul (84 runs in 139 balls) and Ravindra Jadeja (77 runs in 123 balls) helped bring the Men in Blue closer to the total. Despite these efforts, India found themselves having lost nine wickets and yet not crossed the minimum threshold to avoid a follow-on. However, Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep were not yet ready to give up. They put up a brilliant, resilient defence to guide India post the 246-run mark, which was needed to make sure Australia would be unable to enforce a follow-on, making a draw very likely.
With approximately just one day of play remaining, it is now very unlikely that this match will yield a result. Australia needs to bat again, quickly retire, and try to get the Men in Blue bowled out, a scenario that is next to impossible given the time remaining. This is why the heroic contributions of Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah were loudly applauded by their teammates. They were able to rescue India from a very tough situation despite the team having lost all but the final wicket.
