The International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to focus on the American market with reports suggesting that few senior ICC officials will visit the United States of America. (USA) They are set to hold talks with potential American market broadcasters this weekend.
ICC recently launched the tender for media rights in India for the 2024-31 cycle. The tender was released following the completion of BCCI’s e-auction for the media rights for the Indian Premier League. It is also worth noting that ICC has decided to sell the media rights based on the geography with the media rights set to be sold territory wise this time around. Following the Indian market, the tender offer for the American market is set to be the next one on the floor.

It has also been revealed that the process of selling media rights in India as well as the USA is expected to be completed by September and by October. The media rights for the remaining regions which include, Pakistan Sri Lanka, alongside Australia-New Zealand and South Africa are expected to be solid by the end of this year.
According to reports, the ICC believes that the USA can be the third largest market for cricket behind India and the UK. With this view plan in mind, ICC’s chief commercial officer, Anurag Dahiya alongside vice president for media rights Sunil Manoharan are set to make the trip to the US. The duo is expected to visit New York, San Francisco, and Connecticut meeting executives of top tier US broadcasters, which includes CBS, Willow TV, Amazon, Viacom, NBC, and ESPN.
National Broadcasting Company (NBC) is one of the largest media networks in the US and could grab a lot of attention from ICC. With NBC set to broadcast the Olympics in the USA and ICC hoping to be part of 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, it remains interesting to see how the situation pans out.
ESPN too, is one of the largest sports broadcast companies in the world and could gather the attention of Dahiya and Manoharan during their trip to Connecticut. Later, the ICC officials are also said to arrange a meeting with American Cricket Enterprises (ACE), the USA Cricket’s commercial arm in San Francisco.
ICC will sell media rights for the men as well as the women’s games together. The upcoming tender offers will allow interested parties to place different types of bids this time. The bidders have the option to buy TV and digital rights separately and as one unit too for durations of either four years or eight years.
