The International Cricket Council (ICC) released the first ever women’s Future Tours Programme (FTP), on Tuesday. A record number of 301 international matches will be played between the duration of 2022 and 2025. The ongoing FTP cycle started off in May 2022 and is set to end with the conclusion of the 2025 ODI World Cup.
The upcoming women’s cricket calendar has been released in the three-year cycle. It sees the women’s cricket teams played, 159 T20Is and 135 ODIs as well as seven Test matches. The FTP also includes fixtures that will be played a as part of the 2022-25 ICC Women’s Championship.
Teams are set to play three-match bilateral ODI series as part of the 2022-25 ICC Women’s Championship, looking to qualify the 2025 World Cup. 10 teams – Australia, Pakistan, England, West Indies, India, New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka will play eight ODI series (four home and four away) in the next three years.
The top 5 teams at the end of the matches are set to directly qualify for the 2025 World Cup, with hosts India. The ICC Women’s Championship is set to be a 10-team tournament this time, compared to eight in the previous cycle following the addition of Bangladesh and Ireland.
One of the key highlights of the women’s calendar and upcoming FTP is the Ashes. England’s tour of Australia in 2024-25 will debut as a standalone series with the men’s series following later that year. India is also set to play one Test match against England and Australia at home during the FTP cycle.
Speaking about the Future Tours Programme, ICC general manager of cricket, Wasim Khan, said, “This is a huge moment for the women’s game. This FTP not only lends certainty to future cricket tours but also sets the base for a structure that is sure to grow in the coming years.”

Many teams are expected to follow up the bilateral ODI series with corresponding T20I series. Some teams are also said to be opting towards playing five-game T20I series apart from the ICC Women’s Championships fixtures. Results of all the bilateral T20I matches that will be played during the FTP will count towards team rankings.
Those rankings are expected to act as a base and primary mechanism for teams while determining who will qualify for ICC events. It is also worth noting that there is empty window in the women’s FTP during March 2023, which could be an indication of a Women’s IPL.
