The International Cricket Council has released the list of three nominees who have been shortlisted for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for June. Players who recently featured during New Zealand’s tour of England star the list with 2 English stars making the cut.
Jonny Bairstow, England
The England batter is one of the first players to be amongst the nominees for the ICC player of the month award. Bairstow has been excellent for the Three Lions in the recently concluded Test series against the Kiwis. He has been sensational with the bat amassing 394 runs in the three games against New Zealand.
The middle order batter ended the series as the third highest run scorer, averaging over of 78.80 while helping himself to two centuries and one half-century in the series. Bairstow registered the second-fastest Test hundred for England in the second Test at Trent Bridge. He breached the three-figure mark just 77 balls ending his innings with a score of 136 from 92 balls. Later, he smashed the second-fastest 150 in Tests for England recording 162 (157 balls) in the first innings at Headingley before scoring an unbeaten 71 in the second.

Daryl Mitchell, New Zealand
Daryl Mitchell was busy making and breaking records during New Zealand’s’ recent tour to England. The middle-order batter registered a jaw dropping average of 107.60 throughout the series.
He scored three centuries and two fifties in those three Tests against England, ending the tour with 538 runs against his name. Topping the run-getters chart for the series, Mitchell, went on to be the fifth Kiwi star to score centuries in three consecutive Test matches.

Joe Root, England
The last but not the least in the list of cricketers nominated for the ICC Player of the Month award is Joe Root. The former English captain became the second batter from England to go past the 10,000 runs in Test cricket. During the series, Root amassed 396 runs and ended up as the highest run-scorer for his team.
He played a match-winning innings of 115* at Lord’s before snatching the game away from NZ with a 176 at Trent Bridge. Walking away with the Player of the Series award, Root went on to the top in ICC Men’s Test Batting rankings, overtaking Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne in the process.
