Despite getting off to a flying start in Asia Cup 2022, the national Indian cricket team has failed to get going in their recent outings. The Rohit Sharma led side had earlier registered two back-to-back victories over Pakistan and Afghanistan during the group stage of the tournament to make it to the Super Four
However, they have failed to register a single win and suffered two consecutive losses on the big stage. It has resulted in India’s chances of making it to the final of the 6-nation competition very blurry. After tasting a final-over defeat to archrivals Pakistan in their first Super four outing, the Men in Blue suffered a similar fate in the latest match against Sri Lanka.
Following the consecutive defeats, India faces an uphill task to remain in the running of going on to win the Asia Cup. Currently, Rohit Sharma’s side ranks third on the Super four table after losing both games by very close margins. They can bank on their Net Run Rate which sits at -0.125 and is better than Afghanistan’s -0.589. However, Afghanistan has lost just one game, while India has lost two. Here are the scenarios that need to pan out which will propel the most successful team in Asia Cup history into the tournament final.
Afghanistan defeat Pakistan
The Indian cricket team will be keeping a close eye on the upcoming Asia Cup clash of Afghanistan and Pakistan. Rahul Dravid and co would be hoping to see the Mohammad Nabi-led side edge out a victory and bounce back on the winning ways after playing out a narrow loss to Sri Lanka in their previous outing. Pakistan on the other hand would aim to walk away with the win, as victory for Babar Azam’s men will see the result in India being knocked out of the tournament with a game to spare.

India wins against Afghanistan
The Men in Blue play their last match of the Super four stages against Afghanistan. The Asia Cup clash is a must-win for them especially if Pakistan tastes defeat in their upcoming game before the India clash. However, the encounter could end up being a dead rubber if the Men in Green get the better of Mohammad Nabi’s men.
Sri Lanka get the better of Pakistan
If both the above-mentioned scenarios work out, India stands a chance too make it in the finals of Asia Cup 20222. However, they would also have to rely on Sri Lanka and hope to see them come out all guns blazing in the final of the Super 4 clash and defeat Pakistan in that outing.
A win over the Azam’s men will see Dasun Shanaka and co straight-away enter the finals. It would also result in India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan remaining tied on the points table with two points against their tally. Rohit Sharma and co would need to boast a better Net Run Rate (NRR) in order to edge past Afghanistan and Pakistan and qualify the final.
