Harshitha Samarawickrama is a professional cricketer who plays for Sri Lanka’s national women’s team. The talented star made her Twenty20 International (T20I) debut against Ireland in March 2016. She celebrated her 18th birthday in June before making her One Day International (ODI) debut against Australia in September 2016.
The left-handed cricketer grew up in Colombo, a place full of cricketing culture. She was involved with the game from a very young age, and her talents were visible to those around her right from the start. She was impressed at various local cricket clubs, which is why she was given the opportunity to represent her country at such a young age. Soon after making her debut, she became a regular on the team and is still a consistent mainstay.
Harshitha Samarawickrama has also captained Sri Lanka’s national team. She was named the captain of Sri Lanka’s squad for the women’s cricket tournament at the 2019 South Asian Games in November 2019. While Sri Lanka fought valiantly in this tournament, making it all the way to the finals, they had to settle for a silver after losing to Bangladesh by two runs in the final. Apart from this, Samarawickrama has also been named the vice-captain of the team on multiple occasions.

Harshitha Samarawickrama has played 26 ODI games and 56 T20I games while representing Sri Lanka. Her highest score in ODIs to date is 75, while her highest score in T20Is is an impressive 106. The Sri Lankan cricketer is a vital member of the national team and has had many standout performances throughout the years.
While women’s cricket is becoming bigger and bigger, they are still very far off from achieving the same level of global acclaim and viewership as men’s cricket. This is why not nearly as much money as is deserved is available in women’s cricket. This is why it is tough for women cricketers to accumulate as much money as men cricketers. While Samarawickrama’s net worth is not public knowledge as of now, it is unlikely that it is anywhere near the net worth of some male cricketers despite her amazing talent.
Harshitha Samarawickrama recently played a pivotal role in helping her nation win the 2024 Women’s Asia Cup. She played a fantastic innings against India in the final, scoring 69 runs in 51 balls and remaining not out to guide Sri Lanka to victory. Her performance was instrumental in the team’s success, and she was rightfully named the player of the match in the final. At just 26 years old, she has already achieved so much in her career and is poised to continue improving and developing into an even better player.
