Indian cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur spoke about the team’s loss against Australia with the Women in Blue suffering from a big loss in the finals of a major tournament yet again. The Indian women’s cricket team featured in the final of the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022. They took on Australia in the quench for glory but fell short of just 9 runs from wearing the gold-colored medal around their necks and had to settle for the silver this time around.
The Indian white ball team captain has been a seasoned campaigner in the women’s team for quite some time. Harmanpreet Kaur has suffered 3 major setbacks in her playing career with India losing the 2017 World Cup finals loss to England while suffering for the same result during the 2020 World Cup finals against Australia. The Women in Blue went through the same heartbreak in the recently concluded finals of the Commonwealth Games 2022 against Australia.
After the agonizing loss, the 33-year-old went on to speak with the media after the medal ceremony. She went on to claim how the teams’ overall performance throughout the tournament was great. Harmanpreet Kaur also shared that the silver medal will hopefully inspire a lot of girls in India to start playing cricket.
She is quoted saying, “I’m happy and satisfied with the way we played throughout. I know we were close to winning gold, but all around our performance was great. This is the first time we got to play in this tournament and we’re happy to have won a silver medal. A medal is something people back home will get inspired from and they could start playing cricket. As a team, we want to inspire young girls. Doing well on this platform will motivate a lot of people back home.”

Despite losing out to Australia in the finals, the Indian women’s cricket team received a lot of praise and backing by fans across the country. Speaking about the team’s current state of mind, Harmanpreet Kaur shared how the team is heading in the right direction. She also goes on to claim how the Indian team is not far away from becoming a force to reckon with.
Harmanpreet Kaur added,” I know we could’ve easily won gold, but something is better than nothing, at least we got silver. We deserved it for so much hard work. If not gold, we’re satisfied with what we got today. [As a team] we are on the right track, we just need to keep working hard. As Lanning said, we’re not far from dominating across formats. We are improving as a team and time is not far when we will start winning back-to-back.”
