The Indian cricket team was left stunned by Australia as the visitors won the first T20I clash of the 3 match series at Mohali by completing a record chase. While the likes of Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav shined with the bat, the Indian pacers failed to live up to the expectations, especially in the death overs.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar conceded 15 and 16 runs in his last two overs, while Harshal Patel conceded a 22-run over at the back end of the innings. India’s four-wicket loss to Australia had a lot of similarities to their recent defeats against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Asia Cup 2022.
Their inability to stop the run flow at the death overs has cost them plenty of games in the recent past. The Men in Blue felt the absence of Jasprit Bumrah as the stalwart did not feature in any of the games due to an injury. Hardik Pandya opiated on his teammate’s absence and acknowledged the lack of quality death bowling citing Bumrah’s omission. However, the all-rounder has gone on to back the current bowlers to do well in the upcoming matches.
Speaking with the media after the narrow loss to Australia, Hardik Pandya said, “We all know exactly what Jasprit Bumrah brings to the side and how important he is for us. There will be concerns here and there, we have got to trust our boys. These are the best fifteen people who are there in the country, that’s why they are there in the squad. Jasprit being there makes a big difference, obviously, but… he is coming back after an injury so it’s important to get enough time to come back and not put a lot of pressure on himself.

“As a team, we want to get better. Losing teaches you a lot and where we can get better. We are a process driven team and by the time the World Cup comes, we will make sure and get our processes better and see where we can improve. I am very confident about the guys,” Hardik Pandya added.
He further went on to state that, “Few games here and there don’t change much. See we can’t pinpoint anyone. It’s a game. They have also conceded 24-25 run overs and it didn’t matter. It’s a bilateral series, we will get two more games and we will try to get better.”
