Former England star Graeme Swann made some strong comments ahead of the highly anticipated 5th Test match between the Three Lions and India. The off-spinner shared how the home team holds a minor advantage before both teams take the field on Friday.
India is all set to play the postponed fifth Test in Edgbaston, Birmingham from 1st July. The Test match will conclude the Pataudi Trophy series, which started last summer. However, the series was postponed due to COVID-19 outbreak in the Indian camp. Ahead of the clash, Swann has backed the hosts to be favorites for the final Test. The spinner has backed his school of thoughts while adding how both the teams head into the game with different preparations.

The Three Lions enter the 5th Test after registering a comprehensive test series win against New Zealand. England managed to record a clean sweep in the three-match Test series, playing an aggressive brand of cricket. India, on the other hand, will enter into the series finale after playing a 4-day warm-up game. The Men in Blue have not played red ball cricket for over three months. Swann believes that the lack of game time when compared to hosts makes England to be favorites for the match.
Speaking with Sony Sports, Graeme Swann said, “England are in a very good position and I would say they are slight favourites because of that series (against New Zealand). And the fact that India just had one (warm-up) game in England, so they are coming in cold (for) the Test match. which is a bit of disadvantage. They (England) have got the three-Test matches under their belt, so that makes them pre-game favourites.”
Swann also spoke on Joe Root’s form and Ollie Pope while praising Jack Leach for their outing against the Kiwis. India heads into the series with leading their tournament with a 2-1 advantage. The Men in Blue will be eager to register an historic series win, but will have to be on top of their game. India is also set to play 3 T20I’s and ODI (One Day Internationals) after the one-off Test match during their tour to England.
