Legendary speedster Glenn McGrath will soon complete a decade of working as the ‘Director of Coaching’ at the MRF Pace Foundation in India. The Former Australian pacer, who took over from Dennis Lillee went on to express his happiness at seeing some of the players he has worked with doing well. The 52-year-old shared how he has enjoyed the assignment while being proud of all the players that featured in the Indian Premier League as well as the likes of Avesh Khan and Prasidh Krishna with the duo playing for India.
Speaking with reporters during an interaction, the former Aussie cricketer spoke about his time at the helm of the MRF Pace Foundation. He said, “It has been 10 years (laughs)…the last 2 have been a little dodgy. It has been great. I’ve enjoyed it. Our goal was to continue what Dennis (Lillee) had done. I knew I couldn’t just come in and fill those shoes.”
“He (Lillee) is the best pace bowling coach in my opinion. It is about teaching the young guys, the next generation, to become self-sufficient. To see 29 of our boys and ex-boys playing in the recent IPL was a proud moment. Prasidh and Avesh represented India in limited overs cricket. I am really proud of them…proud of all the boys,” Glenn McGrath added.

The former Australia pacer also called himself to be a “traditionalist” who likes Test and ODI cricket. He also goes on to claim how Test matches are the ultimate cricketing format and have to be protected. Glenn McGrath said, “I am very much a traditionalist. I liked Tests, I liked my ODIs. Test cricket is still the ultimate to me. I hope that it is protected and still held in high regard.”
The former Australian cricketer also shared his opinion on One Day Internationals and shared how the format will continue to remain exciting as long as players are scoring runs. Glenn McGrath also went on to admit that ODIs are in trouble due to the rise of T20 cricket. He added, “As for the ODIs, it is still exciting as long as they are scoring runs. Interesting to see the future (of ODIs) and see where it goes. They have got to keep making it (ODIs) exciting. They have got a few challenges.”
