Former opener Gautam Gambhir has shared his thoughts on the potential changes that the Indian team should make in the playing XI against Sri Lanka. The 40-year-old has demanded Rahul Dravid and co to shuffle some players in the team after the Rohit Sharma led side suffered a heavy loss to Pakistan in their latest Asia Cup outing.
The Men in Blue registered a 5-wicket loss to Babar Azam’s men in their Super 4 clash at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday. The Pakistan Cricket Team took the game away in the last two overs in their Asia Cup clash, despite India being in the running to win the clash till the very end.
Speaking on Star Sports after India’s latest clash, Gautam Gambhir demanded some changes in the team for the Sri Lanka game. The former opener wants to see speedster Avesh Khan return to the playing XI after the pacer missed the previous outing against Pakistan.
He also goes on to claim how Ravi Bishnoi has done everything in this game and should be a part of the team for the next game. It would result in the Dravid and co dropping Yuzvendra Chahal from the team with the 40-year-old agreeing to it by stating how the leggie has not bowled well in the competition.
Gautam Gambhir is quoted saying, “Avesh (Khan) for (Yuzvendra) Chahal. Definitely continue with Ravi Bishnoi, he has done everything in this game. Chahal hasn’t bowled that well in this competition so probably it is time to give Bishnoi a longer run.”

The move of dropping Chahal for the team also makes a lot of sense for the Indian team management with the leg spinner taken to the cleaners in the previous outing. The 32-year-old has failed to get going in the ongoing tournament managing to claim just 1 wicket in 3 games. Gautam Gambhir’s idea of excluding the leg spinner makes sense as India cannot afford any other slip ups. It will allow India to rope in Ravichandran Ashwin, who has been waiting for a chance to feature in the tournament.
The off-spinner could be brought in to tackle the left handed Sri Lankan middle order at the Dubai International Stadium. The inclusion of the 35 year old veteran, who can also bat will be a boost to the Indian team against Dasun Shanaka and co.
