Recently, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) council increased the GST rate by 28% on online real money games. Following the ongoing battle with the GST authorities citing the increase in taxation, Bengaluru-based online gaming platform Gameskraft has revealed its plan to shut down its fantasy platform Gamezy Fantasy, as per news report by G2G News.
The official announcement on the app reads, “Gamezy Fantasy will not be available from 18th September onwards.” If reports are to be believed, this change comes as a part of the company’s restructuring process of the Gamezy Super app. Gameskraft has asked its users to opt for separate apps for its other offerings, which include games like Ludo and Rummy, with the Gamezy Super app set to be temporarily disabled.

A spokesperson for the company shared a statement with Inc42, which shared how the decisions were made following internal research while assessing the ongoing trends as well. The unnamed spokesperson was quoted by G2G News stating, “We are focussing our efforts on the development and promotion of dedicated single apps, like our newly launched RummyPrime, Ludo Culture and other initiatives.”
The statement added how it will allow the firm to focus and concentrate on their core competencies while channeling greater resources for presenting unparalleled experiences to the user. Speaking about the major revamps and changes, Gameskraft has also revealed how there won’t be any negative impact on its workforce and talent deployment while adding how the decision is not correlated to the GST policy changes.
It is also worth noting that the decision has come amidst the firm’s ongoing alleged tax case worth ₹21,000 Crore, which saw the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) issue the company a show-cause notice.
This tax slap was however quashed by the Karnataka High Court in May 2023, ruling that Gameskraft’s offerings are skill-based games. Recently, the Supreme Court reportedly cleared the way for DGGI to send tax notices to 40 other online gaming brands.
