The Indian cricket team registered a massive five-wicket win over Pakistan in their first fixture of Asia Cup 2022. Rohit Sharma’s men defeated the Men in Green in a last over thriller at the Dubai International Stadium on 28th August.
The Men in Blue rode on the performance of star all rounder Hardik Pandya with the 28-year-old smashing Pakistan spinner Mohammad Nawaz for a massive six in the last over to snatch the win. Indian Cricket fans were jubilant after Pandya ‘s heroics and were seen celebrating their team’s victory.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah was amongst the happy group of fans that were enjoying the Men in Blues’ win. Amidst all the celebrations, one of Shah’s fellow spectators was seen offering him the Indian flag to celebrate the victory. However, the BCCI secretary was seen refusing to do so which led to some heavy criticism.

The video of Shah refusing to hold the flag went viral on social media with many netizens raising questions. Apart from the fans and Twitterati, many politicians also got involved. People were questioning why the son of India’s Union home minister Amit Shah seemingly refused to hold the flag after the India vs Pakistan clash.
While many politicians and fans slammed Jay Shah on social media for not waving the Indian flag, it is understood that the BCCI secretary was abiding by certain rules. Jay Shah, who is also the reigning president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is learnt to be abiding by the protocol of the cricket organization.
It is reported that the president of the ACC has to follow a code of conduct which demands him to show neutrality against all stakeholders. This would result in him not being able to hold any flag of a participant/ stakeholder during the duration of the tournament.
Despite being the BCCI secretary and a Indian cricket team fan, Shah is believed to be at the stadium as the president of the Asian Cricket Council. It means he had to abide by the rule and regulations while following the code of conduct laid down in the ACC guidelines.
