England captain Eoin Morgan is reported to retire from international cricket this week. The 35-year-old is rumored to hang up his boots due to poor form and fitness issues. Ahead of the recently concluded Netherlands series, Morgan was quoted by Sky Sports saying, “If I don’t think I am good enough or I don’t feel I am contributing to the team, then I will finish.”
Now, The Guardian has reported that Eoin Morgan is thinking about his future and could retire. He recently featured in the 3-match ODI series against the Netherlands where he struggled to get going throughout the tournament. The 35-year-old was dismissed for a golden duck in the first ODI.
Things didn’t get any better for Morgan as he was sent back to hut for yet another duck after seven balls in the second game. The English skipper did not feature in the third clash due to a groin injury. His form has been on a downward slope recently, which all saw him miss out on featuring in IPL 2022.

Morgan took over the captaincy from Alastair Cook back in 2015 before the ICC World Cup in Australia. Since then, he has revolutionized the ODI team. Under his captaincy the Three Lions have turned into one of the best white ball cricket teams alongside former head coach Trevor Bayliss.
With Morgan rumored to retire, Jos Buttler has been named to take over the captaincy of the ODI team. The wicket-keeper opener has served as the vice-captain of the team since 2015. He is likely to get the nod if Morgan decides to step away. However, Moeen Ali’s name is also likely to be thrown in the mix.
Morgan’s rumored retirement from white-ball format comes at a crucial time for the English side. The Three Lions will be eager to do well in the limited over formats with 2 major tournaments lined up. England will be preparing the team for the highly anticipated ICC T20 World Cup this year in Australia.
They would also be keen on settling down players, aiming to defend their title in the ICC ODI World Cup next year. The English team is set to take on India in three ODI’s and three T20I’s after the one off test. It would be keen to see how the Three Lions fare out against the Men in Blue if Morgan opts to retire before the white ball series.
